Here is a strange one I saw the other day, not sure what to make of it. Trailer has air hoses run to it like normal. I don't know what kind of truck that is, never seen another one like it.

That's a Chevy 6500, replaced the old Kodiak line. They only use hydraulic brakes, but on-board air was an option.

That's a medium duty GM truck. 4500,5500, 6500. International makes the truck on contract for GM, they are actually being discontinued, this is the last year for them.

He's got a load on, we set quite a few of those sewer boxes, and between those and that heavy old trailer, he's 35-40,000. The boxes vary by weight if they have internal chambers, but they are usually 7-10k each. So being generous, he's got 14,000 on top, and a 15,000 lb trailer.

I don't think those are factory air brake trucks, but they do have a factory air ride. I have no idea how they have the brakes set up.

I even have an air compressor, factory on my GMC Sierra 1500.
Reasonably certain it could be upgraded to a higher GPM and a day tank.
When I gave it an AFM enigma, actually hooked up some tee’s and some air lines, with a check valve and hooked up a couple of air lines.
One to the front and one to the back. Afterward, determined it was a bit nutty as I have a lot of cordless tools but have actually used it a few times, airing up trailer tires and a few other tools, I wanted air for.
It does have enough umph to run an impact for each rim but certainly not neccessary at this point.
Takes a while for a blow off nozzle.

The trailer alone looks like a good load for the truck. Large tandem dually axles on the trailer and single wheels on the truck just seems out of proportion.

We loaded this up the other day. They were just moving it across the yard, but it was putting the hurt on the truck and trailer.

It's a 25,000lb lathe.

Truck is way too small but a very short move. If I have to move my Cat that's 3000lbs. or so lighter 15 miles on a similar trailer (pintle hitch), will pulling it with a tandem dump truck be reasonably safe if I go slow and have someone following me?

I had a 9 ton Economy trailer & a C65, 26,500 LB gross, 427 gas engine with air brakes on the truck, electric brakes on the trailer. I hauled a Case 580K backhoe. I think around 15,000 LBS. I wouldn't have wanted an ounce heavier. I learned after the fact my son had hauled heavier than that.
One day Andy, one of the extra son borrowed it. My son got a desperate call: "I'm on the Dugway Road with Don's telehandler. I ran out of traction. The air brakes are holding me, but I let my foot off, I start sliding backward. You've got to go around & pull me from above."
We got there 1/2 hour later. His legs were jello, but he was OK. With a 3/4 ton 4x4 pulling from above we got him up the hill. The telehandler weighed over 20,000 LBS!
Dugway Road is 20% grade, 1 lane wide gravel. One side is a brook 10 feet below the road, other side is vertical ledge. The roadway was blasted from ledge.

My advice is find a hauler with adequate equipment.

I'm not there Dave, and I don't know your truck or trailer.

If you're doubting yourself, just have it hauled.

Having someone follow you, isn't going to help a bit if you screw up, or don't have brakes. I don't know if you have the correct plates and drivers license for it, or insurance. Can you pass a medical?

If you are doubting yourself, just have it hauled.

The dump truck GVW is 56,000lbs. but I'm going to talk to someone else at the gravel pit. They moved the Cat for me before no problem. I'd imagine the CEO will still be working for the new owners so I'll try to talk to him. The gravel pit said they would help with things and I also need to make sure I can still keep stuff at the old property for 2 years or more as part of the written agreement. The CEO is a pretty nice guy. To hire someone to haul the Cat would be over $900! That's a lot of money to move it 15 miles!

$900 sounds nuts. Any others around to get a quote from? Towing outfit?

Photo 1965, truck transporting part of rock crusher on it's side. Going down the old
Lewiston grade aka "The Spiral Highway". Nothing but switchbacks dropping down
towards Lewiston/Clarkston on the Snake River. Many a wreck on this old highway
which is a scenic route these days.
