Generally don't pay much attention to my regi's. I was putting the current paper work in the Grizzly today and sat down with my calculator and converted the kilo's to lbs. It would appear my Grizzly is a 2 Ton pick up...News to me...I did weigh the truck and the paper work is close. Will what does your regi's say...View attachment 346926
We don't have to put weights on our registration if it's not commercial but when I weighed it, it's around 4000kg.
It would make sense for the weight of the extra cab.

In BC they put the commercial rating on trucks a given size and up. My truck is now 150 lbs lighter then new. That would be from all my aluminum work. Yes my cab is much smaller than yours.. I will get ahold of Art in Sayward and see what his papers say..

The Grizzly was moved today and parked in front of the shop. The mirrors are stainless, have lights and are heated. They mounted the lights with mild steel screws that rusted. Changed to stainless. I changed the mirror brkt bolts to plated Gr.8 so they could be tightened much better than than Gr.2 stainless. Front air bags were aired up. Issue with the drivers side bag as it folded up and the lower mount kicked out. Put a jack between the frame and spring and got things sorted out.. Time to start cleaning and wire the trailer brake controller.....Slow and steady.

I got started on cleaning the Grizzly up yesterday afternoon. It's a mess. Mary brought me some concentrated cleaners to deal with the algae and grime. Bucket of hot water and cleaner, spray bottle full of hot water and cleaner, rag and a tooth brush . I got about 80% of the truck done. I did not hose it off as I knew it was going to rain today and it has been all day.. More work to come...Slow and steady.

The pile of parts for some Grizzly upgrades is growing. Rear rubber fender flare's like the front, some very nice mud flaps that are coming from Vancouver Is. (story later), 12 volt air valve, a dozen fittings and hose, weather pac terminal kit, reverse light switch for the 5spd. New pads for the disc brake e-brake. Progress report to come...The wind is to cold to be outside working on it...IMG_2523.jpgrubber 002.JPGrubber 003.JPGupgrades 004.JPG

(Yesterday)...Rob has starting fitting the parts for the Grizzly intake. I have owned the bottom plates for 2 years and never noticed they were wrong. I have always known my turbo and intercooler were 2 1.2" pipe. This stuff is for 3" pipe. Rob made new bottom plates for the elbows and has started the fitting.. It is all 304 stainless..

I just found this forum yesterday.
I started reading at page 1 right through to 87. Excellent read!
I must applaud all the work that has been done and the follow up work to keep this truck alive.
I was working in Whistler in the early '90s when these trucks were being built.
I had an opportunity to meet "Grizzly Pete" and see his truck here on Vancouver Island. He also had offered to sell it to me...damn hindsight!
They now refer to them as "Vocational Trucks".
They were built for heavy duty use in a specific market. The logging industry, but they could have easily found their way into mining, heavy construction and the oil field.
Years later when doing contract work in Ft. Mac , l met a mechanic that was familiar with the Grizzly Trucks and he remarked that they wished they had produced more as they would have fit into their mining industry well.
It's unfortunate we lost Pacific, Hayes and Western Star truck manufacturing.
They were the trucks that were built to work and last.
There are several still in operation throughout BC.
Not to derail this thread, but there's a company building Vocational Trucks in Donald, BC by hand. Check them out (Edison Motors).

Look for the envelope on the right side at the top of the page. It opens a conversation window.

(yesterday) More progress on the Grizzly intake. Welding has had it's challenges. The elbows were labeled as 304 stainless and they are not. Not enough nickel in them. They are supposed to be .065 thick and they are a very thin .041. I hope they don't rust. It is all being pickled.... Slow going..
