This pic was sent to me a few days ago on FB. This is truck #5 his name is Art and I spoke to him aprox 5 years ago. Truck is in Prince George and if I remember correctly his father in law bought it new. Don't know how old the pic is. This truck was for sale a few years ago. It is kept in running order..

Yesterday I went to clean the bottom plate of the manifold and found these marks. Done with a carbide cutter to vent the purging gas. Not happy. I can think of other ways to do it. Its a under pressure gasket surface and I will need to fix it...One is about 10 thou deep and the other 15 thou.
Edit...He would not have just left them. Just something he forgot to repair..Intake 005.JPGIntake 006.JPGIntake 007.JPG

Don't really like your post but glad you discovered the grooves. I agree there are better ways it could have been done. Do they have to be welded up and ground flat/smooth to repair?

The damaged plate is now at my friends shop. Plan is to clamp it down on the mill and and use a 3/4 end mill. Only the gasket surface will get cleaned up. Should be pretty straight forward.. I will get it back early Jan.

I have been battling Pneumonia for the last 3 weeks but started tinkering again today. I got the stainless mudflap brackets off the truck and got the 3/16 x 1 stainless mudflap clamping bars cut to length. The right rear fender has had a unknown repair so the brkt is some what different, I also have all the hardware to install the intake. Sorry about the pic I have the shakes a bit.

The reason I have pulled the flap brkts back off is because the truck was built with 24"W flaps. They knotched them to clear the frame. I have some very nice 20"w flaps and the bolt pattern is different. I need to re drill the stainless brkts so the flaps are mounted correctly.

Will you use standard hss drill bit, or something else for drilling through that stainless steel?
