    Dozer vs CTL

We have 40 acres of steep mountain side land at 6000 feet which is 2 miles from the entrance to the giant sequoia trees national park. Logging in the Sequoia National Forest was severely limited in 1988, so we have several old landings and logging roads overgrown with trees. I'm having a grand...

Is anyone having any problems with the new Cat 285/275 CTLs?

The problem is that CAT is not interested in being a construction equipment manufacturer right now. CAT is interested in making huge generators for data centers where they can make as much profit as they want due to lack of supply.

    Travel lockout?

My current theft deterrent system is very effective if they don't wander off

    Travel lockout?

I have a 2014 CAT 314E # ZJT00258 and I want to know if it is possible to add a switch to allow/disallow use of the final drives when the hydraulics are engaged. Two reasons. Theft prevention and I have to move into some very tight spots near structures and large trees on slopes and near steep...

    Bucket teeth for grading/ditching

Sorry PeterG, I only have the digging bucket and used up my wife's graciousness recently buying a ripper, so not buying another bucket is necessary. We use the excavator on weekends to make roads in a forest on the side of a mountain. Widening present roads as well as making new roads. Ditches...

    Bucket teeth for grading/ditching

For a 4 foot bucket, would you use 1/2 inch steel or what thickness for the cutting edge? The bucket is 5/8ths on the side walls. I have 7 teeth, would you weld to the outer teeth or 1/3 and 2/3 across the bucket? I think I tack weld it on and take it to a welding shop. Thanks

Thank you for that 2 for 1 solution! Now, I get to justify an early Christmas welding set present

    Bucket teeth for grading/ditching

Thank you Dave. The online CAT parts store does not let me search for 200 or 180 mm wide teeth and my possible bucket serial number above is not recognized, so maybe not a model or serial number. I believe I have a J type frog attachments, but will get pictures next weekend since machine is at...

    Bucket teeth for grading/ditching

I have a CAT 314E LCR with a 4' CAT bucket (1200 mm). Bucket has inset metal plate partially remaining showing MFH54322 and CAT in upper right corner. There are 7 digging teeth with side pins. My ask is if it is possible to exchange teeth to very wide spade-like teeth that would almost touch...

    Finding a Used Ripper

That is what I am looking for. I am guessing from this thread that there are not a lot of busted rippers out there based on bad steel or welding. And the internet is showing that people don't want to part with their used rippers.

    Finding a Used Ripper

Thank you for your suggestions. Ebay has a ripper for my model apparently for $1600 plus cost of pins, to fit 311 to 315 models. You can search Ebay to find it and others. But, I don't trust it because I understand a 315 uses 70 mm pins. Would such a ripper be okay for roots? No idea what kind...

    Finding a Used Ripper

I have a 2014 Cat 314e lcr with oem quick coupler and a 4 foot bucket with 65 mm pins. I would like to get a ripper, preferably used CAT rather than new or Chinese. It will be used for stump pulling rather than rock or frost. I cannot find a cat part number for this which a distant cat dealers...

What choices would make me happy for 10 years?

A few places on the "driveway" there are exposed tree roots around rocks the size of car tires to dishwashers, usually under 2-3 foot diameter trees that the driveway goes around. I have not seen exposed rock on the shallower logging trails. When you dig in the dirt you get small rocks from...

What choices would make me happy for 10 years?

We took 6 yo Grayson to the land 2 days ago. We climbed up into the bottom of the clouds sitting on the mountains with the valley below, and he is singing "I think I can fly, I think I can touch the sky..." Thank you for reminding me of the memory

What choices would make me happy for 10 years?

Thank you for all your help in my research for an excavator for a large alpine mountain private parcel surrounded by the Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Wilderness. We are 10 miles from the National Park that has the giant redwood trees. It is on the steep side of a mountain, and covered with...

Thumb tines end to end to the bucket teeth okay?

I am looking at two 16 ton machines with progressive link thumbs for forestry, making and improving roads in a mountainside, removing stumps and brush/trees One machine has a thumb where the tines do not fit between the teeth of the bucket like the other machine. Rather, half of the tines hit...

To DEF or not to DEF

So sorry to type over the lines here. Please stop all the private messages now, more than a hundred is just too many on this illegal matter. No DEF will be harmed in this endeavor, I promise. Thanks for the advice on the critters. We have 3 bears frequently on our trail cameras, but I can see...
