I talked with my brother this morning and he said that the BX 500 is still sitting along the Richardson Highway between Fairbanks and North Pole with the Berger tower. I think the BX 2000 is in that area too. I'll work on getting some scanned photos posted.

Interesting timing for sure.

Regards,

Jeff

Jcurtis, Thanks for all of your info. Sn 15 BX 500 turns up. I recently aquired a Cat brochure showing the Deep River 500 on site when it was near new. I did not know about the 2000 Skagit. I am anxious to see the pics as they turn up. Catdw21e

Well then, there are at least 2 that have been converted! The emailed pic will stay in my 'mystery machine' category for now. Any information will be helpful. Funny how 11 small machines built in the later 60's can spark conversation in what will soon be 2011. I never thought the 444 was as big as an LS98 but maybe I'm wrong.....? We will have to do some research!

Our family yarded logs with a 444. It's serial number was A1. We purchased it at the CZ Rainier OR. auction. It was first owned by ITT Rayonier. We sold it to some retired loggers in Enterprize OR in the mid 90's. It had the heel rack boom on it.

Ha! I got some GREAT pics of that machine at the auction (cant find them), and then Loggers World had a gorgeous color pic of it on the front cover shortly thereafter. My great uncle lived just down the road from you there and I took alot of TL-6 and Drott 80 pics at your place 10 or so so years ago.

Welcome to the forum!

Thank you. I visited an SJ 5 yesterday. It was parked in the late 80's, and has not moved since. Did not have time or proper clothes for inspection. Will get pictures of it posted as parked. Forgot to ask owner if he had pictures of of it in action.

I would say its BCFP's around Caycuse area on Vancouver island hard to make out the # on carriage guessing #794. any extra info on this machine would be great .

Skagit SY-717

In the later 1970's Skagit developed a smaller swing yarder about the size of the GT-3 in terms of line sizes and capacities. It was faster, lighter, and just more modern compared to the slow and clumsy GT-3. There were 12 SY-717 yarders built- 6 on M4A3 Tank bottom and 6 on Chapman hydraulic crawlers. Machine used a running skyline and double mains for grapple and dropline work. Later most were modified to a lager brake on the haulback so you could run a standing skyline and single main for use with the smaller slackpulling cariages.

A larger swing machine was also built at the same and called the SY-747.

Olstedt Logging Skagit SY-717

I have been around several different SY-717 yarders over the years. These pics were takes in 2002 at Gnat Creek Oregon (Wauna Mill/Knappa area between Clatskanie and Astoria) and the owner is Herb Olstedt Logging. Lots of people in my home area owned them over the years including Gould & Sons at Castle Rock and Jerry Debriae at Cathlamet.

These pics do show decent detail of the overall machine.

Nice pictures in not so nice weather

Pictures of machinery on move is interesting, the GT4 is huge enough, but maybe someone have pictures of a BU199 or Washington 208...

Nice pics tree farmer, I hardly ever get to see a yarder on move, and you get to see two! I actually saw an 071 heading south on I5 near Woodland this afternoon. No chance to get a picture though, was going the opposite way. The one going by looks like a TSY255, do you know whose it was?
