After removing cover on 14 bolt GM axle and finding the numbers--it's the rare 3.21 ratio.
GM called it 3.21 but 42 divided by 13 is really 3.23. Only made those from what I can tell
in 1982-83 in a 14 bolt and there are no replacement ring & pinions. Which is ok because
there is nothing wrong with this one, plus a good highway gear ratio with a 345 hp 383.
Should be around 2,200 rpm at 60 to 65 with 31's.

Have a 727 Torqueflite to rebuild, will post photos of it. Going behind the 383, which I just
finished throttle linkage for kick down for 727. Most crap wagon the linkage together when
installing a high rise intake manifold. I always spend the time to customize it to fit/work like
factory. I rebuilt the bracket on this Dodge small block after installing a aftermarket intake.
plus change arm on carb to match factory 4BL.

Good work. Any one who has ever chased sloppy primary shaft bushings can see you have too.

Rochester primary shaft diameter is .308, ish. Quite convenient, that is.....

you know, that would be fun to be in one of those just for kicks. I just don't like harming cars that much now i'm older. mostly I like fixing things.
Only thing it has going for it was those were headed to the crusher anyways. I build a few
engines for local guys but it isn't something I would pay to watch.

The 727 was a very good trans and easy to rebuild . I have a old motor home to junk with a big Dodge engine . Its fiberglass its body will have to be cut up and hauled to the trash place . I dont look forward to this job. Several guys said the wanted the engine i told them they could have it if they took the thing and junked it . At least 3 guys said great they would take it but its still here.

I had very good luck with the 727 i rebuilt some they were in pickups with bale beds that could haul 2 big round bails of hay at a time but the drivers were good and used low range most of the time when using 4wd. Low range is the key to making a automatic last.

Some accessories mounted on 383--getting very hard to come up with correct mounts/pulleys.
I built a new mount at block to raise with one long bolt the power steering pump then made a
new adjuster mount to pump housing. Plus throttle/kick down mount revamped. Because the
carb is a offshore knockoff 650 cfm AFB. I took it apart to check floats jets and internals, all was
perfect---unlike the last three Edelbrock's I dealt with, all three the float settings were extremely
low, and made in the U.S.A.

And some A727 Chrysler transmission parts and pieces.

You do good work. I have built a carb or two myself. My personal belief is that the Quadrajet is the peak of carbonator design. I have given away or shot with high powered rifles all of my Holleys and Motorcraft four bbls, and the Edlebrocks are next on the list.

Q jets were a good carb--the trouble was too many cooks in the kitchen messing with something
beyond their limits. Carter's AFB was a good carb--farmed out to various builders through the years,
including PacCar.

I changed the heads on that 383, it now has 1967 castings 915, one year only closed chamber.
which jumped calculated compression to 9.2 from 8.5 with better flow also.

I just got my 1985 chevy pickup running i switched engines in it. The Q-jet i think had been setting 2 years . I thought maybe it would be ok but yesterday i drove it 60 miles and it ran good then i came home shut it off for a hour or so started it to go to town got out of the drive it died . It restarted i backed it in the drive and drove something else . I guess i should take it apart and clean it?
