I am not up to speed on this thread since the purchase but is this a common failure on a 520 hour machine?

Current way to find O/Os for equipment hauling in midwest? Sites, FB, CL?

How far are you needing to move stuff? Here we have several towing outfits that have RGN's and Landolls that move our iron around our metro area. They also go all over the southeast moving equipment. Any outfits like that in your area? No brokers we deal with them directly.

    Plate compactor opinions . . .

That has been my experience with a Bobcat one.

    Plate compactor opinions . . .

Cat. I bundled the plate tamp with the 305 purchase. Prefer to do attachments that way since it's bundled into one payment and it's usually the cheapest to buy attachments when you are buying a new machine.

Need a smaller general purpose excavator bucket... what size? 36" and 6" currently

This thread just reminded me I do have a 36" toothed bucket for a Cat 420DIT I sold several years ago. Anyone interested PM.

Need a smaller general purpose excavator bucket... what size? 36" and 6" currently

FWIW we have the following for our 305's (5T) - 18" w/teeth 24" w/teeth 36" smooth The 24" and 36" get used the majority of the time. 18" is useful for demo and rock other wise the 24" goes on for digging purposes.

Spec creep and the disappearance of the 10-12 ton class excavators

I was talking specifically about our operation as far as a lowboy goes. I could haul a 310 sized machine with our L9000 and tandem tag but I'd have to pack a lunch if the move is over 10 miles, cheaper to hire it moved. Tight sites are where the Landoll our lowboy service has shines. Being...

Feedback on Komatsu Intelligent Machine Control on their dozers - what is your experience/opinion

A CAD file is just part of the GPS model. It takes a CAD file, the control points the engineer used from the survey crew to build the CAD and a model builder using the grade control software of choice to build the model. Our model builder also likes to have the PDF's in order to compare the...

Feedback on Komatsu Intelligent Machine Control on their dozers - what is your experience/opinion

Not sure on the ins and outs on the Kommie but the newer Cat's have 2D grade control for building pads and simple slopes. Works really well without a laser, total station or GPS base. We'll use it sometimes if we need to grade something simple off the GPS model or build a flat pad. Cat's 2D...

Spec creep and the disappearance of the 10-12 ton class excavators

Thanks for the laugh! Couldn't agree more. Always get a chuckle out of the 3500 with wheels sticking out 6-8" wider than the truck pulling a new 299 CTL with the hitch dragging the ground and the truck's nose in the air hauling ass down the interstate while they have the phone to their ear...

A few projects I have done recently

IMO opinion concrete is the best however the biggest PITA. However these are much easier to install and met spec.

    Plate compactor opinions . . .

Bought a plate tamp for our 305's and it's been a great attachment. Do you just need a walk behind or would a mini-ex mounted one work? No engine to maintain with a hydro attachment.

1919 Holt 10 Ton dozer on the auction block

Thought some might be interested. Listing says it's a "one owner". https://www.jmwood.com/1919-HOLT-10-TON-Dozer-Crawler-Tractor_i59803686 I assume the "owner" was the company not an individual.

A few projects I have done recently

ALDOT flared end section set, short piece of 18" HDPE then first manhole. This is the main outfall for the entire project. Plans call for grouted rip-rap in front of the end section for scour protection - hate that ****. Spec's called for a specific "anti-seep" collar which I shall not...

Cat D5G HYDROSTATIC ECM light Illuminated, NO START

Agree. For something simple PP I would look at batteries and alternator first. The G series dozers like to be in the 14.4 range for everything to be warm and fuzzie. If that doesn't work then follow whatever Nige tells you to do.
