Beyond frustrating dealing with the county

I traded properties with the gravel pit because they needed my property for a haul road. I got a great deal but just trying to get all the permits and approvals to hopefully build a new MX track is giving me a migraine. I need to widen one approach and remove another one that's been there over...

    Manatou CTL's

Wondering if anybody has any experience with Manatou CTL's? I saw the Home Depot here had a couple sizes for rent. One was fairly small.

    Foam filled tire speed

I'm hoping there's still some tire experts on the forum. I have foam filled tires on the back of my Champion grader. They work great for general grading and driving relatively slow, 10 MPH or so. I want to drive the grader to my new property that's 10-12 minutes away in a vehicle going 50-60...

    Clearing/leveling a very large area

I'll officially be the owner of a new property in a few days. The property is all sand that's firm enough to drive on but has some grass so it's hard to tell where hills and other obstacles are. I'm hoping to use the grader to level it and scrape the grass off so I can see the layout better...

    Leveling a large sand field

I'm getting the new property in a couple weeks to hopefully get approved for an MX track. The field is fairly compacted sand with grass and some former berms and hills from previous dirt bikes and quads. I think it would be best to strip the grass and level the area's where I want the track and...

    Digging in sand

If you have a large field covered with sand at least 3' deep and you dig down a couple feet will the hole fill with water or will the sand absorb it pretty fast? The sand could be down 5' or more.

    753 stiff control levers

I was running a 1997 Bobcat 753 and the steering levers seemed fairly stiff. I thought the levers in my skid steer were a little stiff but these were worse. They worked properly but if I had to run it full time I think I'd get carpel tunnel syndrome. Are they normally fairly stiff to operate?

How efficient is a grader for stripping material

I'm hoping to get approval to put a new MX track in on another parcel of land. I'm going to need clay for building jumps and stuff and maybe material to make a berm to lower sound levels. The top of the field is sand and I'm hoping it's not too deep to get to clay. The sand is pretty firm so I...

    Here's something you never see

While looking at a Facebook link a member posted of an excavator, this was down further. Pretty cool and near where I live but I couldn't afford it. Not a bad price either for what you get...

Making a pond to hold water

The property I'm getting and hoping to put a new MX track on has sand on top but I think if I dig down deep enough it is clay. The field is flat but in the back there are valleys that are lower and there are a few small ponds. I will need clay anyway so was thinking of stripping the sand off and...

    Lifetime engine oil

I wonder if this could be an option for huge mining machine engines? Was watching a show about the world's largest ice breaker, Umiak 1, that carries $125 mil. worth of nickel concentrate every load (30,000 tons) and operates in Canada. It has a 30,000 HP engine that never needs an oil change...

    Champion grader hose routing help

I was wondering if someone had a picture of how the hose for the clutch slave cylinder is routed from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder on an articulated Champion grader preferably a series II or III.

    Damn more fixing

After getting the clutch and slave cylinder working like they're supposed to a few years ago with all new parts I need another new hose. The hose was zip tied out of the way but somehow managed to rub on the big U-Joint to the transmission and I lost the clutch. Not a big deal to fix but...

    Dimensions of Cat scarifier keepers

I'm wondering if someone knows the thickness of Cat 5K1549 T lock wedges for scarifier teeth? I bought some but don't have them near by to measure.

    It pays to shop around!

I finally had time to look into scarifier shanks for the grader. I'm still waiting for a price on Volvo style but highly doubt they will be cheaper. I had a price from an equipment dealer I saw at a trade show a couple weeks ago that I thought was really good. I called another local dealer and...

    Scarifier shanks questions

I'm looking again at getting scarifier shanks for the ripper on my 730A Champion. I got a great price on new Cat style shanks from the Bedrock dealer, $44cad. for the basic shank and $11 for the tips. I highly doubt I could find Champion/Volvo shanks cheaper. I doubt I could find used shanks any...

    Are new machines too complex?

I've been reading some threads on newer machines that are basically ran by computers and it includes just about all functions including the bucket tilt on loaders. A wire breaks or a connection gets corroded and you can't roll the bucket. A lot of new machines also have joystick controls. Great...

    Retiring and selling equipment

I know I'll probably be shutting down my MX/oval tracks in the next few years unless some miracle happened and I was getting 50 riders a day. That's not likely but a couple other tracks have shut down so there aren't many options. Anyway, I got a call from the gravel pit that has supported me...

    Cummins new gas engine

Wondering if anybody else has seen that Cummin's has a new 6.7L gas engine for medium duty Kenworth/Peterbuilt trucks? No emissions crap and apparently better mileage than a diesel. I think it said 15,000 mile oil change intervals. They also have a new 7.2L diesel but the gas engine was way more...

    Fuel gauge acting weird

Wondering if anyone has had the fuel gauge on their skid steer stick on full and/or stay on full when the key is turned off? At half a tank the gauge goes to empty with key off. Used to always go to empty. Gauge also seems to read higher than actual fuel level too. Not sure if I have gauge issue...
