Glad he survived.
Was he loaded? I see a little bit of lime.
Wonder if that classified as HAZ MAT.

Yea, loaded. Roughly 50 tons of lime on the truck.

A local contractor was called to clean the roadway. The farm that owned it wanted him to recover the lime and keep it clean. He said ***? The lime was in about a 2 inch layer all over the ditch. He recovered it, but said it sure wasn't clean.

Ecological risk? Minimal. It was cleaned up completely within hours of it being dumped.

Given where the wreck happened, I'm sure the township police, and maybe the county sheriff, were all that responded along with the fire department. I'll have to ask the contractor for details next time I see him.
I looked up Michigan's EPA requirements involving spills. It's kind of vague or wide open
in some areas but the standard of 55 gallons diesel spill constitutes rules engaged. Being
it was upside down and the fact Freightliner fuel caps leak, pretty sure it ran some out the
vents quickly.

I'm not disagreeing with you about how it should have happened. It probably would have had more publicity and been handled more diligently had it been closer to a metro region. Or if those who responded, had been more properly trained.

Moves of that velocity normally-like 99.9% of the time are permitted by state weights and
measures for a route that is agreed upon by both state DOT and transporter. Transporter
test runs the route and any changes are made for allowance before hand in a normal manner.
In the case of this---well it's anybody's guess till someone is thrown under the bus and truth
seeps out.
