volvo ec210lc stalling

Just to preface I have no volvo experience. I have a volvo ec210lc with a stalling issue. Engine side is fine. Hydraulic side looks mechanically fine. I’ve switched the solenoid valve out, no change. The shift solenoid seems to have an issue somewhere in the circuit. When unplugged the solenoid has 24v going to it nothing on ground. When plugged in it has 4.5v on both sides. If I take a jumper and ground it to frame from the back of the ground wire for the solenoid I lose the voltage on the ground side. When I have the solenoid grounded to frame I get an er22 fault but the machine runs well. When it’s wired normally there’s no fault but it stalls like the pump is fully stroked all the time. When switched to manual mode I lose power to the radio and left side console and have no change with stalling. On the console the mA reads d250-d550 with and without the jumped ground. The mA jumps around there’s no fine changes with it. The two wires for the shift solenoid have good continuity and aren’t shorted to any other wires in that harness. I tested from solenoid to connector behind seat, connector to manual/auto switch, switch to ecm. Is there a “ground” going to a controller/switch/relay I’m missing? I don’t have access to volvo stuff so if anyone knows where I could go from here and tell me what’s normal behavior that’d help

If you are stalling it in manual mode, unless someone has modified the wiring to bypass the resistors, You most likely have an engine issue. That or the pump regulators are stuck at full stroke all the time or someone has messed with the regulator adjustments.

Yes it acts like the pumps are stroked all the time. The engine was troubleshot first to rule that out. The confusion is why when the wiring is all hooked up correctly I have no faults but weird voltage on the power shift. When the power shift is grounded I get a fault but normal operation. Why do I lose console and radio power with manual mode? Where are the resistors?

Does the machine operate fine in Manual mode? How did you verify the engine is performing correctly?

If the IECU goes blank and you lose the radio in manual mode it sounds like the manual mode switch circuit may be faulty. I would have to look at the schematics tomorrow to investigate.
When switching to manual mode you should be getting an error message on the IECU.

It is the exact same in manual mode besides having to manually change rpm.

When it came in for stalling I thought it was most likely engine related. Verified electronic governor was working the full range of the throttle lever, inspected turbo compressor and turbine, inspected air filters, changed fuel filters, inspected for boost/ exhaust leaks. That all looked ok so I put a boost gauge on it and found it was about 1/2 (which shouldn’t outright kill the machine imo) what it should be. Did all my troubleshooting from what I found on quickserve for the fuel system. Decided to pull fuel pump and get it rebuilt. Shop said they found some broken/ damaged internals. Reinstalled pump got boost back. Still stalling but making boost and more smoke.

When I ground the power shift I can take it out and dig all day no issues but there’s a fault the customer doesn’t want to see. As soon as I undo it, it stalls with every function all rpms. The customer said they took it to the volvo shop and they couldn’t fix it.
