When I look at Job postings I only find full time positions avaliable, is that because part time work is usually not possible (unable to hand off a project to someone else during the week) or is it because no one wants a part time position?

How likely would an employer higher somone as an apprentice part time?

Would a journeyman be more or less likely to land a part time position?

To be clear, by part time I mean 3 or less days a week. These days could be rotating throughout the week.

Thanks!

It really depends. I've been at this for 9 years and have yet to work anywhere that had part time mechanics. I did work at a place where we put the standard 20-something days a month in but they were completely random days (like 3 on 1 off, then 1 on and 4 off etc). Where I'm at now, half of us are 7/7 and the rest are 4 on 3 off.

The issue I have seen is benefits and experience. Industrial insurance is real expensive and there may be issues with hours worked opposed to what has to be paid. Vacation time, medical benefits, overtime provisions and individual abilities usually get in the way of anyone wanting to use a part timer. An experienced hand might get someone to hire them on for a single gig but usually people want to treat you as an independent contractor in that event.
