joystick has to be squeezed to use hyd functions

The genie 2506 I have which is very similar to a 5519 has a paddle button on the joystick that has to be squeezed in order to use the hyd functions. This is very uncomfortable and unhandy for me. Is there a way to disable this button. I tried taping it closed, but then the machine locks me out of hyd functions after a few minutes. The other telehandlers do not have this safety feature and in a way makes this one more dangerous if you aren't used to it. 2014 model.
