I have my eye on this excavator coming up at a local auction. When I first spotted it has a company decal on it, by the time I made it out to inspect the machine it had been removed. I had hoped to contact the company to try to find a little history, if they were willing to share. It does still have the Peterson Cat dealer sticker on it which is a Northern California Cat dealer ship with several different locations. So I assume it was originally sold by one of them. I can see some tell tale signs that it has had some pump work done or they were at least removed for some reason, because of the colored phone wires wrapped around hoses and there corresponding locations of where they go. Which is a common practice around here for Cat mechanics. Any way my question is with the serial # provided in the link can you find any history on the machine. I don't want to ask at my dealership for obvious reasons. It has higher hrs than A machine I would normally look at but after checking it out, it may be worth the risk if it sells at a decent price. Besides at 60 yrs old I don't need another 20yr machine. Thanks in advance. And sorry for being so long winded. In case the link doesn't work.

The dealer can find out dealer service history but that's all. Now you know why they take off the decals. Last owner would know the most.

It sometimes makes you wonder why they took them off. Usually good respectable company's show it with pride. Sometimes even adds value to the machine if the area knows they take good care of their stuff.

Usually the best a guy can do is give it his best overall inspection and hope for the best. Not sure what it's like in the states but places have gone nuts here with privacy laws. Dealers sometimes wont give out info because of it. Kind of comes down to who you know though sometimes they stretch the rules a bit.lol.

What's the deal with not wanting to ask the dealer? Keeping your cards close? It looks like a nice hoe. Watch the aux. hydraulics, next you know you'll be running a pecker on it.

Good Luck.. You are due a newer machine, and who say's you're not going to run it till your 80??

the RB link didnt work, anything distinguishing about the company decals that could make it easy to identify how they label their machines.

might be a repo, could be the reason the company logos have been removed

That machine was sold by Peterson tractor, DOD may 15 2006. Customer comes up as Ritchie bros auctions. I couldn't find the original owner .
It had a final drive bearing failure at 1918 hrs
The last dealer work was done by Peterson at 6298 hrs on apr 28 2012 PS51943 which was for cracks in the boom
It had a hammer on it.

Thanks for your efforts, Mobiltech! I knew I could count on you guys. Any chance of finding out what all it is plummed for? I knew right away it had run a hammer when I went to check it out buy the stone bruises on the front of the machine, that is a bit of a concern. I ran hammers for 5 yrs straight at the last outfit I worked for before going out on my own, and I remember things breaking that other excavators almost never had problems with.

CD, yeah I tend to keep my plans to myself, plus my Cat salesman is such a good guy I hate to break his heart again. And as far as running it till I`m 80 you never know, if I still enjoy it then as much as I do now and my health is good, I could see that happening. Although the brains of the outfit may have something to say about that.

Digger, I would guess that hoe would go for something in the mid 70's. A coupler would be nice as you could run a rake and different buckets. As for the hammer, it's hard to say unless you have some inside scoop. My Dad retired at 76 so it shows if you like it, keep at it. My dump truck driver retired as well, but when he sold his ranch he ran out of stuff to do. He used to work part time when he was still working it, now he is the first one at the shop and probably the most dedicated..at 67. Sorry to change the topic you will have good luck, used iron prices are only going up so you may want to buy something sooner than later. Are you going to Con-expo?

Regards, CD

Thanks CD, to busy to get away this yr, how about you, going to go? I think I would be very lucky if it were to sell in the 70`s, if it should it will be mine. With the work picture around here prices are really climbing. The fact that were still in mid winter and we are finally getting hammed with rain is in my favor. Whatever I get next will have a coupler for sure. I do wish that one had a different style thumb.
