Oh, almost forgot: In your top pic, green is pump suction from the tank, purple is pressure (this is the line to test),The light red between the green and purple is the relief valve, and the dark red is the end of the spool valve.

This is what I found on the screen. Can't even see the sun through it. I've got it soaking in my parts cleaner while I go pick up a new filter that has just arrive at the shop. Keeping my fingers crossed this is all it is.

It would be weird for that to make it work cold but not hot, cause the oil gets thinner when hot, but I'll sure cross my fingers and hope to be wrong!

I agree and am keeping my fingers crossed as well. The adapters I ordered to use the pressure gauge won't be here til Thursday anyway. I have to go back out of town for the weekend then so it may even be next Monday before I can pressure test anyway. Even if cleaning this thing works out I'm still going to test the pressure.

And here is the screen clean:

BTW: as I was putting this fitting back in I thought to myself "I wonder if there is a screen on the fitting that sources fluid to the FEL and if it looks this bad???" I pulled it because I figured its better to check it now with the reservoir empty thn to wait for the FEL to stop working.

This is what I found:

This one is worse. Notice the hole at the bottom of the screen. Is this a replaceable part? Possible to repair by either soldering or having it braised? I'm starting to think the previous owner did not understand the meaning of the word "maintenance". I think I'll be rinsing the reservoir with some kerosene before putting all this back together.

I just ordered gasket C5NNG879A and screen C7NND893A. I hope that is correct. This also means next week before I make any progress on this. I hate waiting.

Also, to the comment if the line may be kinked. I checked and it is not. Thanks for the heads up though.

Also, very good info on the pump reseal. I may have to get into that before this is over. Thanks to you too sir.

I will. I plan on monitoring this thread in case anyone has pointers to add. I'll let you know if everything works once the screens, filter and hydraulic oil is changed out. I am still going to do a pressure test as well even if everything works out. Since I've already ordered all the fittings it would be a shame to not do it. It will be a learning experience for me as well. Hopefully this will fix it and I don't need to rebuild the pump. If not then at least I know all this needed to be done anyway. I'll probably go ahead and document my flushing of the reservoir just to show all the trash that comes out. It looked pretty nasty just from the trash I was pulling out from where my fingers could reach. It looked like wood chips and all sorts of stuff. I have no idea how so much trash could get into this the system. The filter has physical trash stuck to it. Thin I should go ahead and change out the entire fluid? If so how do I drain it and how much is it going to be?

I went ahead and ordered a spin on oil filter kit and a spin on oil filter for the engine. I am assuming the engine oil is probably just about as bad as the hydro fluid. Aside from fuel filters and air filter anything else I should go ahead and get to while I'm at it?

Well Messicks called and let me know they can't get the screen. I had to call the dealership to get the screen. The cost is twice what Messicks listed. Oh well. They say it will probably get here on Wednesday. I hope sooner. Everything is on hold and waiting on that screen to be installed. I am out of town again so I can't look at the tractor to get that trans filter part number. From looking at the NH diagrams I am not sure which one is the correct one. Mine has the trans with two forward two rear speeds and a hi/lo range. Which filter is for mine?

The spin on oil filter adapter arrived while I was gone.

Got it on and fresh oil in its belly. Kind of odd having something so clean and shiny on this dirty beast.

Stll waiting on the hydro return screen.

Well the dealer called today and told me they can't get a replacement screen, pn c7nnd893a. I guess i'll be spending tomorrow cleaning the old one, reshaping it and attempting to repair the hole in it. Ayone have ideas on repairing the hole or repacig this thing?

I took the old screen and cleaned it. Then I sand blasted it so it might take solder ok. I soldered around the edge at the bottom and it seems to be strong. Then I took some very light gauge guitar string and basically sewed the hole together at the top. I used some of that gasket material you can buy to cut out your own gasket and put it all back together. I filled with oil and reinstalled the new hydraulic filter. I drove the loader around my property for about 45 minutes. I scooped up a few piles of dirt here and there. The steering never gave out. I don't have time to do a pressure test this week. I will do that next week and report back what it is. I should be doing some clearing with it next week as well. If the steering holds out I will report back either way.

I tested the pressure on the steering pump. Came up to about 1900lbs. Funny, when I revved the engine the pressure dropped about 100lbs but returned to 1900lbs at idle. The steering was working today.
