As expected the rear cylinders are a bit warmer at low loads. I want to use an IR pointer to read cyl temperatures for and idea of calibration. Any one have any practical experience about how IR readings on the exterior of air-cooled jugs relate to actual temps on the inside? What's the best place to pint at (from the sides)? As is, on the first day of shakedown with ambient air around 14c the onboard unlabelled idiot-gauge shows about 2 needle widths and the individual gauges show from 35c-45c, all of which seem very low (engine is my rebuild).
