We are doing a timing belt replacement on a Deutz D2011 in our JLG 660SJ boom lift. We are replacing it for PM so the unit came in running. We are using the factory manual to do the work. We are able to pin and lock the camshaft, when we move to pinning the crankshaft timing, its off. We would have to make an additional 1/8 turn as measured on the camshaft in order to pin the crankshaft. As seen in the attached photo.

Are we missing something or did previous person in there have the timing off that far and it still ran??

We are tossing around the idea of just pinning the camshaft, cutting off the belt and advancing the crankshaft so we can pin it and installing new belt and tensioner from there.

Are we on the right path or are we missing something?

I have not worked on this particular.
Foley engines has a write up, google search.
Sounds fiddly to include having the crank in the wrong spot.
thank you for your response! Yes, we've read though the Foley writeup on doing this job. They want us to pin the camshaft, pull fuel injector and crank the engine over by hand to find TDC then pin the crank..... but how would we be able to crank the engine over if the camshaft is pinned??? It left me more confused than we already were with the suspected timing being off.

Also from the foley info actually short 4 and 3/4 minute video if the center bolt in the crankshaft pulley is loosened it may create trouble.
The write up is kinda vague. Would hope the factory would be better.
