Cat 299d oil pan leak access issues

2018 cat 299d2 1870 hrs serial #FD204269

its leaking a quart every 8 hrs ... leaves a puddle when parked .. leaks only when its running ... I looked for other sources of the leak and have determined it is the pan gasket that needs replaced ... Does anybody have advice how to replace that gasket? Can the engine be lifted enough to get a few inches to remove the pan? Any help would be appreciated.

The manual doesn't say whether the engine needs to be lifted. In any case, you should try to unscrew the oil pan and pull it out. If that doesn't work, then try lifting the engine.

the manual works with engines on a stand ... no help... the pan needs 4 inches to clear it only has 2, engine has to come out or be lifted ... has anyone done this without removing the engine?

I assume you can disconnect the hydraulic pump from the engine, unscrew the engine mounts, and try raising it 2 inches. If that doesn't work, first follow the engine removal instructions.

Start By:

Remove the radiator, air cooler, and hydraulic oil cooler. Refer to "Radiator, Aftercooler, and Hydraulic Oil Cooler - Remove and Install."

Remove the air cleaner. Refer to "Air Cleaner - Remove and Install."

there may be someone who has experienced this... it would be nice to hear from them ... but yes I can loosen a lot of stuff and cheat and just maybe it will work... also maybe the bolts just need ring gaskets .. parts diagram does NOT show a gasket... thats odd
