Well have to disagree, FWD started in 1909 and made it to 2003 before it was sold
with it's main asset Seagrave to a investment group. FWD built all the odd utility
trucks for municipal service that others didn't want to bother with. Therefore it only
made sense to use other manufactures sheet metal.
When looking back at all the companies vying for a place in the market that was
narrowing because of companies like PacCar, Freightliner with the most money and
largest pieces of the pie. It's understandable the rest died under the pressure to
compete. Autocar the oldest vehicle manufacture has been tossed around so many
times, it's a wonder they're still alive. And most of that was caused by White who
owned Autocar, Diamond T & Diamond REO. Out of the settling dust of White came
Western Star in 1967, almost 60 years ago. Freightliner kept that segment combined
with Daimler, Western Star has managed to stay alive giving Freightliner 41% of the
market and PacCar roughly 31%. Had FWD been bought by forceful company it might
have done much better, could have, would have, should have then maybe not.

These days, well the past 15 years Freightliner has ruled the roost, and will continue too
because they have the best warranty program. PacCar's warranty program is second rate.
A company has to operate using the warranty safety net.
