One of my favorites--A friend had one with a 351C closed chamber 11.1 with a 4 speed same
as this one exactly. Type NW {Northwest} edition 1970. Some came with SCJ 429's & 4 spds.
A rare car these days. I saw a Type NW 429 on a motorcycle ride about 11 years ago now
while getting gas in Asotin Wa. It was a original owner car. Funny thing is where these photos
were taken it very well could be that same car, because these are not my photos but Asotin
looks much like this back ground.

Four young guys in 1975 on a trip to Yakima to go cruising--two met their end where the middle
arrow is in the photo below. Neal the driver/owner of a 1970 SCJ 429 Torino was traveling at a
high rate of speed down the old canyon road at about 7 pm on a Friday night, lost control in the
curve. Hit the rock wall/cliff bounced off and was stopped by the old rock guard rail/wall on the
right side of photo, killing him, ejecting one out the windshield and over the edge towards the river.
The two in the back seat barely survived, I knew all four real well. Neal worked for the Ford dealer
in town. His dad worked there also. Alcohol was involved. The one below is a spitting image of
Neals Torino.

There’s a shop in Tulsa, Tulsa Auto Spring. Been around over 100 years. They’ve been primarily trucks for as long as I can remember. They make springs, u-bolts etc. Early on they were automotive, on the walls they have old advertisements from the model A and flathead era. Based on those ads you could rebuild your engine, re-bush springs, re-line brakes and align it for about $12. My how times have changed!

I got several Motors labor/parts estimation books from the 20's. Most was inexpensive compared
to now. But you didn't have mechanics demanding $50+ an hour and benefits with a company
vehicle to drive either. Back then wages were 25 cents an hour or a dollar a day, no insurance no
vacation pay, no company vehicle---only thing required was show up and have sweat stain running
down the back of shirt and crack of ass by 8:30 am. See the real problem is the greed runs a full
360*.

It started with the 454--now I have 3 more. All 355 cu.in small block Chevys, all the same
parts and pieces. Air gap intake manifolds, 600 cfm mechanical secondaries, same 274/460
dur/lift cams rumpy. 10.5 compression with hypereutectic pistons, full floating rods, one with
aluminum 2.02's heads, one with cast iron 2.02's and one with 1.94's, all get springs and
pushrods. And a possible 4th one--all pays well and easy work and lifting. Demo Derby engines.

1966, last year for the 389 and Tri Power, 1967 was 400 cu. in. and 4 barrel. One little bit
of trivia--the Tri Power was known back then for under hood fires. The rear carb was
practically over the top of distributor and the old Rochester 2 jets were known to leak at
throttle shafts, plus a float adjusted a little too high created that problem.

*One cam advanced 3 degrees the other retarded 3 degrees to compensate for stretch at
high rpms.
