Back when I was in high school, the 383 was every high school kids wet dream. 350's were cheap and plentiful and 383 kits were available everywhere. I think 3 of my buddies had 383's in trucks before we graduated and a few others were building them in their garage. My buddy and I were the odd balls, playing with the small block 400s. My dad's camaro (68) had one on it when he bought it. I got it to run a lot better while I was in high school, and then finally got to do a full build about 5 years later. My buddy built a 400 to drop into his lifted short bed k1500 right after high school. It ran well, but was horribly loud and drank fuel bad.

THE CAR that killed all the competition for years to come, just less than 80 produced.
1968 Dodge Dart 426 Hemi code LO23. Capable of low 9 second quarter mile passes
in the neighborhood of 140 mile per hour. Very rare and extremely high priced as a
factory muscle car.

I knew the sales manager for Faltus Motors Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth dealer in my old
home town. He had a farmer come in and told them his kid just got his license and he
was going to buy him a car, so he can pick out what he wants. When the car arrived
daddy crapped his pants {My kid ain't driving that, send it back and I'll buy that pickup
on the corner of the lot instead}. Sonny boy ordered a 68 Hemi Dart--which got traded
to a dealer in L.A..

Over the years i saved sbc and bbc and a few W engine low perf cores to rebuild in my retirement but now i can’t afford the stupidly high cost of the parts. Not sure what i’m going to do with them. Not only that, i can’t afford the cost of the parts to restore the vehicles they were going to be put into. I didn’t anticipate that the cost of the parts would increase to the level it has:(

One issue that is ongoing--is every oil change a pint of Lucas ZDDP zinc additive has to be used.
Can't break in without it and have to have it from then on. Rotella T3 has zinc in it but not to
the level of the old conventional motor oils. So can figure 20 bucks for 5 Qts 10x30 then 22 bucks
for a pint of Lucas.

we had a 65 F85 with the 330 2 barrel. My sister had it and the transmission went out on the way across the country, ended up in some Midwest wrecking yard.
It was two tone blue with white top, like this Cutlass.

This is a Sky Hawk my Dad was trying to get going before he passed . It has a supercharger with it. I don't know what we will do with the car it has some problems. I would like to find someone that was interested in it and make them a very good deal but I don't know how my Sister and Brother fill about it. We may keep it and someday put it together.

Those old hawks were quite slippery for their time. Its easy to see why they are still popular for speed trials. I wish i had one that i could cruise or take to car shows. I haven’t seen one in years. The nice ones bring way more than i could afford now

Ah Ha the 383 stroker---that isn't. Kid brought it by today, I said nothing much while he
stood watching me gut it in 35 minutes and a couple swigs of coffee. {Well what you have
here is a-----------stock 350 2 barrel engine}. Major frowning started. The crank is .020 on
mains, the rods are .030 and your crankshaft is toast, the heads are 1.72 two barrels. But
your lucky on the block .030 bore that's in good shape with 4 bolt mains.
*
So I priced him out a Eagle 383 balanced stroker rotating kit, with full floating rods, and
the extras like oil pump, timing set, gaskets, cam bearings & soft plug kit. $1475.00.
And he already had a cam & lifters plus a set of 2.02 double hump heads. So he will talk
to mamma or beg to get what it needs.
*
And I have another to build after this one, or the next one will take it's place.

A little info for those who stumble here {CMC} Camshaft Machine Company. A little known
major camshaft supplier. For all engines, gas, gas high performance and diesel. They grind
shafts for just about every engine manufacture and high perf suppliers. Take a look at the
cam core catalog.

I use to use this outfit --made some good cams.
