3204 injector seals

I have replaced the head using an aftermarket head from HHP on a 76Y01583 track loader, when I went to install the injectors I have noticed that the injector hole is counter bored .062. The OD of the factory seal is larger than the counter bore, making a gap between the surface and injector seal.

The IPD seal kit appears to have two different thicknesses of nylon seals that would both fit into the counter bore, however now that the head is installed i dont have an accurate way to measure the thickness from inside the counter bore to the face of the head. I would assume it is very critical to have the injector tip at the correct depth into the combustion chamber.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

I suppose the guys with the computer connections to the Cat system are still enjoying their time off...but they likely have the answers, down to the thousandth of an inch!!

I would take a bit of threaded rod that is small enough to hold a nut that can fit thru the injector hole. Leave it long so you can keep a good grip on it or you will be pulling the head to fish it out of the cylinder! A bit of loctite or a nylock nut on the inside would be good insurance, too.

Spin another nut on the rod on the outside end of the rod. Slip this farmer-grade gauge into the hole and turn the outside nut until the two nuts (the inside one and the outside one) are gently touching each side of the head.

Slip this contraption out of the injector hole and you have a pretty good idea of the thickness of the head by measuring between the two nuts.

You could avoid putting a nut inside the cylinder by just bending the end of the threaded rod to a nice square end.

Hope this helps!!

Jon.

Seems like there are too sizes on that seal what is the smaller size i would try the smaller size twards the head and see if it fit the counter bore

The smaller seal does fit in the counter bore, but i was worried the injectors may stick down in the combustion chamber to far.

I would go to a cat dealer and ask to see the seal for that engine and get a thickness measurement on it I wouldn't think that your seals would be thinner than origanal seal

my thought I would be use the one close to original Cat seal thickness since cat doesn't list any different seals for resurfaced heads I don't think I would be to concerned
