1400B Transmission oil change - how to and where to get parts for machine?

Just picked up a 3CX 1986 (sn322xxx) which is really a 1400B with a few options. Aux hydraulic connection w hose reel, 4 in one buck, forks that are stored on the bucket. First task is changing the trans fluid. Picked up 6 gallons of Ford F trans fluid. Trying to move the machine on the trailer, the PO got nervous and rushed to put in 2 quarts of Dextron instead of Ford F so planning to change it. Engine oil changed.

So new filter and drain....does it all drain out or does it need to be flushed in some way? Capacity is 5.8 Gallons...how does the dipstick work? one part of the manual says check within 15 seconds after power off. next page say check cold

Anyway, best place for cylinder rebuilt kits? Stick cylinder needs to be repacked. Did one on a 1700B a few years ago and this one looks much smaller in diameter. Dash doesn't work...electrical issue is assumed. Shuttle shifter needed to be jumped out to load the machine...maybe related to the dash power. I have the manual for the unit so need to trace it down. Thanks in advance for any help.

I know you already bought the fluid - but might be worth a call to a dealer to ask if they still recommend Ford F fluid. My 2016 3CX has 2 JCB fluids (dependent on temperature), and local mechanic said to use a newer all-temp fluid - which ended up being "Triax Transfluid Ultra TO-4, TRX7452" for me.

My manual has a dry and wet capacity - 15.4L dry and 11L wet. In my experience w/ any trans, it never drains completely but I avoid doing any kind of flush unless there is visible metal in the outgoing fluid or filter.

I'm going thru a new-to-me machine too - basically tried to check condition of fluids and salvage some more hours.. but basically cheap insurance to do them all, esp hydraulic fluid if its an unknown/sat in rain/humid climates.

I did call my local JCB parts and while he was looking for the pn for the oil, i told him the ford spec and he yes, that ford F is fine. I asked about pricing on the 5 gallon drum of JCB special trans fluid and he said the Ford F will be much less expensive. I ended up at my local oil supplier and mentioned both the Ford F and TO-4 and they thought the TO-4 was missing something to be compatible with the transmission plates. Local JCB mechanic also said to use the TO-04 but since it was second hand info, I stuck with the Ford F in quarts - 2 cases of 12 each...$85per case.

So pulled the strainer and only 2.5 gallons of ATF came out. Screen was very clean. Where might the rest of the ATF be sitting? Trans cooler? The strainer on this unit removes from the side.

Maybe that is why the PO was nervous and dumped oil in it.
Was it full before you pulled the strainer ?

it showed ATF on the dipstick so yes....Now I have an ATF leaking from the rear trans seal area.

2.5 gallons after change was actually too much on the dipstick and I had to pull out a qt to get it to be within range. Rear seal of the transmission is leaking which I guess requires you to pull the 350 lb transmission.

Did you remove the drain plug after you removed the strainer ?

How bad is it leaking? When I deal with radial airplane engines, we just put a catch pan under the engine and pour the oil back in the top when we fly it next
