I can see signs (welded up holes) that they put a grab handle on the nose thinking they could tilt it like a glass nosed Hwy truck.. Hood id 51" long and made out of 11ga..

Could you have springs or some kind of counterweight underneath that pulls on the hood when you lift on it?

It depends on the tension. You just need an assist not something that pulls super strong and makes it hard to close. Just thought of something. Could you put a small winch underneath that pulls on the hood to open it but freewheels for closing it? Maybe a linear(s) actuator could work underneath. Might need a little stronger ones. I know Princess Auto has all kinds of different sizes of them.

My problem with putting a actuator under the hood is if it fails or i lose power I have no way of getting the hood open. If i put them where I am thinking i would just gave to pull the pins.

If they were electric you could have a remote switch you could jumper. I just think something that isn't obvious would look better.

I agree. It does come with a remote. The big problem is I have no room under the hood for the actuators. I will have the hood open soon and will have another look. Last time 2 of us agreed on the lack of space for them or a suitable place for them... I am going to look into the aluminum hood again. I do know who made them.

I got a hold of the company in Nanaimo that has built two aluminum hoods for these trucks. They do not have drawings. Not what i was hoping.

I wouldn't think a aluminum hood would be difficult to produce, because it's angles
instead of radiused. The hood I had to build for the mack was a very time
consuming experience, simply because of both angles and radius.

Looking at pic. above of the hood open I can't tell if it's cables or solid rods that support the hood when it's open. Could springs or gas struts be used there? Another thought was maybe a kind of scissor hinge like a truck hoist using an actuator. Might only need on one side if there's room for it to act as an assist. Is there any room between on either side of the rad. and the hood? If nothing will fit what about putting a couple pins on the hood and fenders and having a quick attach lineaer actuator(s) that you take off and store behind or under the seat? A couple pins would look better than the actuators being a permanent mount. Then you could still manually lift the hood if necessary. Aluminum would be lighter but a little pricey to make considering you have a good hood. Just need to make it easier to open.

Those are cables. When the hood shuts the ends are very close to each other. When the hood is shut (looking through the grille) there is only a couple of inches clearance between the hood and the rad. The reason I want the actuators on the outside is if some thing goes wrong I can remove them and open the hood. It so happens they are mounted with pins. I spent a few hours today making templates and measuring. The actuator company is now on board and helping me out. I have also reached out again to the people who made the aluminum hoods.. Al who owns the sayward truck may have some paperwork. The other truck has changed hands and know idea who the previous owner was.

I noticed this before but never gave it any thought. There is a filler plate under the grille. Looks like some one screwed up when the made the grille. Bolt holes are 1 inch center to center apart.. I will look at other trucks and see if they have it..

So here are some pics of the 2nd truck built. This is by all accounts truck #1.. I do not see that filler panel on this truck. Guessing mine was indeed a screw up.
I don't see any Cummins badges on the hood and the running boards look like aluminum ??
