I just purchased a “new” used 12F motor grader and was told the only problem with it was that the breakers were light. Looked at it, saw that the break fluid was dry, filled it, and the breaks worked great. I drove it down the road a bit, everything felt really solid so I bit the bullet and bought it (it was a good deal).
I had cat transported it to the beginning of a primitive road I’ve been trying to grade. I start roading it further in (not even using the moeboard) and it is clicking along like a champion, easily climbing fairly steep hills until about 10 miles in I start to notice it slow down, and started having to down shift to creep up hills. I went 2 miles like that until eventually I’m barely moving even down hill so I parked it.
I never felt anything slip transmission wise, nor did I hear anything clanking. It simply slowed down. Now I have my suspicions, there’s this knob with with three, what looks to be, hydronic lines running out of it and it says parking break on the top of it, but the knob just seems to spin endlessly so I left it alone. I think while I was driving it the parking break slowly built pressure and eventually brought me to a crawl.
So my question is three fold, how does the parking break work? Do you think that’s what the problem is? And if not, what could it be? And if you’ve got the time I’d like to know more about the machine in general.
