There was a oilfield driller here that chromed and pimped out it's newest drilling rig. The thought was the crew would treat it as their own and take better care of it. I think it helped.

DC have put two Madill 4000 log loaders together in NZ.

They also showed a test remote control track falling machine (no cab) (Labelled as a 1100)

I have been through and over-nighted in Prince George many times. It gives off the impression that it would be a good place for DC.

I wonder why Nicholson sold off Madill?
Actually, I don't think Nicholson actually sold off Madill. I believe it was Kadant Inc. who owns Nicholson that sold them off.
I really dislike multinationals. they all seem to just play with businesses to make a momentary profit, bleed them dry then dump them.

Question for you guys
According to the book, the 009 was stock with a caterpillar straight 6, yet some guys say stock was a 60 series Detroit.

I have also heard that a lot of guys take the Detroit out and modify it to fit a 3406B

The Madill 009’s I have been around either had a D343 cat, 12v 71 Detroit‘s. Maybe 60 series were replacements

Ok, makes sense
We have one machine with a 12v71 motor and I saw some machines on YouTube with a 60 series in there.
And on our other machine, they put a 3406b in there, so I assume they had a D343 in there.
Was the D343 similar to the 3406b?
This winter we want to put another 3406b in the machine with the 12v71 motor.

The D343 is a powerhouse of an engine. I believe they began life as power for D8 & D9's.
i was around a 65 ft tugboat that had 4 343's that were coupled to 2 shafts and props and could pull like nobodies business. They were also in trucks, but with many of the cast iron components shed to lighten the package.

I started at Madill in 1968 and it was pretty much all GM then. Being just a kid on the floor I wasn't privy to everything going on behind the scenes but word around the shop was that we had switched to Cat engines by the early 70s because the US military was taking most of GMs production for the Viet Nam war effort. We did go back to GM some years later. d.d.

How interesting
In my opinion they should have stuck with caterpillar.
These 12v71 motors are so deafening and the cats are a lot quieter.
As far as power goes, what does the difference look like?
Those 12v71 are 2 stoke motors and they just don't die lol
I'm not familiar with the d343 motors but I am familiar with the 3406b motors. Are they similar in power and specs, are they both mechanical motors?

Standard was GM then Cat then back to GM. There was also the odd Cummins in the mix if that was what the customer wanted. May have been others that I don't remember. They would put in whatever the customer wanted if it was available. Before my time they even had Waukesha engines in them in the early days I was told. Right on about the screaming Jimmies. d.d.
