On the site I'm spending most of my time on, we occasionally need to do some excavator work inside an already completed foundation. Actually, if we wanted to think a little further ahead, we wouldn't *need* to do the work inside a completed foundation, but with the proper technology it's not a big deal to do it when it fits best into everybody's agenda.

The crane is a 25 ton Grove. It should reach just shy of 50 feet with the Kobelco 35 SR hanging on the line. We try to stay much closer in than that.

The series of pics was taken as we were lifting it out of the hole.

The 3-legged sling was professionally fabricated according to specs given in the excavator's owner's manual. There are lifting points provided at both ends of the dozer blade and at the top of the boom.

When we've lifted it into tight quarters, we've used a ground line,or two. This day we were pretty much in wide open space.

About to make a nice soft landing.

Some may notice that there's no cribbing of any sort under the crane outriggers. The ground is an old slag dump. Some places are so hard that big excavators have trouble digging through it. Unlike setting up on dirt, we don't have to worry about an outrigger sinking.
