My new to me John Deere 317g is very weak in the curl down position and can barely lift itself off the ground even at full throttle. Wondering if I need to do a calibration and if so what the process?

Welcome to HEF Advancedtool;)!

Kudos for posting a serial number.

If you partially dump your bucket while it is off the ground, then boom down, will the machine lift off the ground, or will the bucket curl back instead?

Check your messages, I'll send you the calibration procedure. Try that first.

So I just swapped out the battery because this cold spell killed the one that was in there. I noticed initially it wouldn’t lift itself in the curl down position but with the bucket down and using the boom down it lifts itself easily without the bucket curling up at all. Also noticed after it warmed up and I cycled the bucket a few times it got much better and was able to lift itself with just curling the bucket down. I did the calibration and didn’t notice any difference. When I shut the machine and let it cool it continued to be very weak when curling down. Not sure what to make of it

When you say cold, how cold (air temperature)? Miami shouldn't be cold at all, but maybe the hydraulic temperature sensor is reading something else. Before starting, scroll through the monitor to hydraulic temperature. What does it read? If it reads 32* or less, then the hydraulics are derated until it warms up.
