Ok I’ve got a 299d xhp that will crank no start. It just died while running it the other day. Did notice that the temperature gauge bottoms out on the high side for some reason and that was a code in it. Replaced the coolant sensor with no luck have these codes in the machine
2685-8
2686-8
E459-2
E875-3
E361-3
E391-1
Serial number nlc00591
Also had a blew fuse behind the cab on the right side replaced it to but won’t start anyone else had this issue and know what to look for?

Are all these codes active?
If not all are active, then you need to understand which codes are currently active.

Of all the codes you wrote, only E459-2 can affect the start. Try using the instructions for troubleshooting this problem.

Did you try clearing all the codes and seeing what comes back when you try and start it?

E459 is the crucial one here - at least if it is Active. It generally causes a no crank situation, although it has also been known to cause a crank no start condition and also an engine start but with a misifire well before reaching High Idle RPM, usually around 1400 RPM.

To the OP. Use the forum search function and look for "E459". There are a dozen or so threads with plenty of illustrations regarding it created already. In order of priority this is how I would suggest you tackle it. Test after each step before moving forward:-

1. Engine block ground cable connections. Remove, clean, reinstall and tighten correctly.
2. Battery connections including both ends of ground cable plus master disconnect switch (if equipped) same procedure as per Step 1 above.
3. Engine ECM ground connections. I will send you an electrical schematic. Keep an eye on your messages.
4. Integrity of CAN+ and CAN- datalink wires inside engine harness.

This information could be useful in understanding what is going on.

"When the machine systems are initially powered up, the machine ECM requests the engine power rating from the Engine ECM via the CAN communication network. If the machine ECM does not receive a response, the E459-2 code will become active. In this situation, Cat ET will also not be able to connect to the engine ECM. This scenario is the most common occurrence of the E459-2"

I tried the grounds but still had some yellow errors flashing up on the left info unit on the skid steer. So i went ahead and ordered a new harness from cat for the engine and replaced it so far ran it an half hour after getting it installed and no trouble lights fingers crossed Do you know if there is a way to tell the difference in stored and active codes in this year 299? Also the only way to clear them is with the cat et software correct? Thanks for all your help Nige youve been an invaluable asset in helping with these problems

I have good news. You can look at Active and Logged Diagnostic Codes using that panel. Each type of code is stored in a different section.
See the attachment. If you have any questions come back and ask.
