Rebuilding the dipper cylinder on my 1975 Case 580B with split piston seal heads. Using Hercules seal kit through CEA Services, seal kit number G105517

What is the correct Gland Seal order?

When I pulled it apart (not that it was put together in the right order in the past), the gland seal was facing in towards the piston and there was an Oring on top of it towards the seal head.

The new kit has a flat on both sides plastic shim (it might be called a wear ring).

With the gland nut in the orientation in the picture, does this shim go under the gland seal next to the split fiber wiper in the center (towards outside of the gland nut).

Or does the shim on top of the Gland seal, with the shim on the inside closest to the seal head (the same orientation as the stack I pulled out)?

Thanks

Not that it matters that much but it should go in the same orientation as the o-ring that came off.
You want that nylon wear sleeve between the inner gland seal and the piston.
Just make sure the outside flare of the inner gland seal is twords the piston also, so the inner pressure pushes up on the flare.

Thanks.

I have the lip towards the inside/seal head but the stack order seems a little weird to me putting the flat hard shim on the front of the seal lip where it has a lot less support..

The "plastic shim", "wear ring", is actually called a buffer ring.
It is only fitted in a gland that has a groove specifically for it - usually a younger model than a 580B.

If there wasn't one in your gland, it is not needed.

Talked to Herecules, it's a buffer ring. It only goes in gland nuts that have a groove specific for the buffer ring and does not go in my gland nut.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks
I've done multiple pistons on a couple 580s and have used hw parts source, they had the best pricing and had them all in kits labeled for what cylinder they go to
