The first big dozers that came to Iceland in the late 60's were (of course) Cats, mostly D8H and a couple of D9's. While the smaller models, D6s and D7's were highly regarded and popular, the word spread out that the D8's were some 'junk', having too much downtime and breakage. Well, almost all the D8s
spent most of their time ripping and dozing rock, working most days of the week. Then in the late 70's came Komatsu with their D155.
Most people were pretty sceptical about that japanese iron at first, but doing the same hard work it seemed that the D155 and some D355's proved to more reliable than the cats, and in some years it seemed that the Komatsus had completely taken over the big-dozer market in the country.
That was to change though when Caterpillar came with their high-drive dozers.
Just courious about what experiences you guyes have with the big Cats of the 70's .
