I think that happened more than we think back in the day. My Uncle was a lineman and would definitely watch for game while “out” working in the rural areas during hunting season.
Little story about hunting and company trucks.
Where my wife worked {PP&L} No guns, no ammo, no bow & arrows allowed on company property,
that included employees vehicles---along with tobacco products.

When I worked Ag-----One of the service men brings in his truck 89 SD 350, Bunch of work to do.
I took it out a drove it first so I knew how it drove before work. Replaced trans & clutch/flywheel,
radiator, hoses, power steering pump, front brakes, U-joints, front suspension. I noticed it turned
sharper one way not the other, removed steering gear, pitman arm--sector shaft had a twist in the
splines. One of the other service guys came in and I showed him the steering gear, {how do you
suppose that happened?} Oh so & so likes hunting-especially Coyotes, he ran that into a washout
chasing a coyote. Which told the story of the 243 ammo on dash.

Then that fall I decided to take a 5 day vacation to Oregon coast, hunting season. When I came
back there were three company 4x4 pickups setting in the lot with hunting damage. -------------
Two with cooked trans issues and one with front end damage.

After my chat with the general manager---all extra use of company trucks came to an end,
no firearms allowed in vehicles.
