1997 cat 426 cit stuck in 4 wheel drive

Hi my machine is stuck in 4wheel drive the switch seems to be working but the 4 wheel drive wont disengage.is it bad to drive on the road like this sonetimes i drive miles to jobs

Not a good idea to drive far on road in 4WD. Hard on tires and transfer case gears. May heat up oil if you go far enough.

We have had this happen to both of our 4x4 tractor loader backhoes(other brands). There is an electric switch box on the transfer case that puts it in and out of four wheel drive. You need to get a new one one of ours was $ 300-400.00. I think it is better to be in 4x4 than 2x4.
