    Case 550G Transmission pressure problems

I have a parts book for 1450B but nothing on 550. If my memory serves me correctly there is a clutch pack mounted on that shaft in a 1450B. With those there is no way to pull it without taking tranny out. I have worked on Franklin Logging Skidder trannys a lot and they are very similar so its...

    Need some teeth

Well like I said, his personality is not the greatest. I would have bet the farm on him, but with that being said. All my equipment I have ever owned are Cat, Deere, Link-Belt, and Case. Other than logging equipment such as Prentice, Barko, and Franklin, which they have little to do with. I...

No one wants to work also They don’t want to pay

Yea I think that would mostly be state by state, or region by region, because here in NC you can fire someone for any reason just because you feel like it, and they can't do anything about it. Thats the law.

    D8 H and D8K Final Drive

I am not real familiar with the D8's personally but im fairly certain the finals won't interchange. There is an old thread I saw here once with people debating the differences. It was several pages long.

    D8 H and D8K Final Drive

He had a shop that employeed 3 guys all the time. His head guy was as good a Cat man as there has ever been. He was certified by Cat to do warranty work even though he didn't work for Cat. I think he did originally. I can build a final and it will last years in something like my 90s D6D machine...

No one wants to work also They don’t want to pay

Have guys on logging job that have been there over 15, 20, and even a truck driver over 30 years. When good help comes pay them. It pays you in tbe long run. Nothing like having guys in a profession like mountain logging that you know will be there everyday and do a good job and take care of...

Wilson Finley Company. Talk to branch in Greensboro, NC. Talk to Philip. He is good as I have ever ran across in "consumables". Dry personality, but that part can be overlooked. I have equipment all the way back to the early 60s and he has no trouble finding whatever I need.

    D8 H and D8K Final Drive

There is a guy here locally that used to have a pretty big grading company. Big enough they built sections of US Highway. But he still did custom grading for homeowners as well, cleared land, etc. He had bunches of 8H and 8K dozers. Lots of people swear by the H, but he always said everytime...

How much paint for a D3B?

Just painted this. Took about 6 quarts of rustoleum. I built the cab and limb risers just before painting so I primed it. I should have primed it all. It makes the paint go a lot farther. But then again you need a good bit of primer. Stay away from cheap paint, like tractor supply brand, because...

    CAT D4D 78A serial # question...

I had an old man moment for a moment.... my ol' 6C was a 74A ... I guess I had 76 in my head because I was born in 76 I guess....lol. I visited ol' girl today. My dad bought her in 1972 with less than 1,000 hours. Thats back when all the loggers just had 450 John Deere dozers and stuff like...

    CAT D4D 78A serial # question...

So here is one thing I found "off" with the S/N... I have an older series C-frame. Which could have been an easy switch in the past. I am still trying to remember what was off about the hydraulic group. I may have been looking at the wrong page in my hydraulic control book. But the C-frame I...

    CAT D4D 78A serial # question...

You are probably more correct than I am. I have been told many times that the 83 S/N started in 1966. Thats how I first found out that mine is older than 1969. I assumed after being told that several times it were true, I guess not. I am going to visit my old 6C here before long and rob it of...

    CAT D4D 78A serial # question...

In Charlotte which is 1.5 hours away they have all that older stuff, and maybe in Greensboro, but not out in the branches that im close to like Boone, NC. BTW.... my 6C is a 76A. They were built only from 63 to 65 Im fairly sure.. Don't be shocked because I thought mine was a 69' for years...lol.

    CAT D4D 78A serial # question...

Trust me. I believe you more than them. I think they would walk into walls without a computer. I remember when the big store in Charlotte fitst went to computers my dad would tell them you are gonna have to quit poking that thing and dust one of them books off if, you know what a book is...

    CAT D4D 78A serial # question...

I will get back to you on that one. It seemed to match the 43? I think it was? Single valve pretty close, but I never could match it exactly. But the control valve number did match. Or maybe the other way around. When im back around it I will gather that info. I have a 64' 6C that has made the...

    CAT D4D 78A serial # question...

I aquired an old 78A D4D Caterpillar dozer that was about ready for the junkyard, that I have brought back to life. There are some numbers stamped below the serial plate on the engine. The serial plate itself reads 78A4087. My confusion comes from the fact that Carolina Cat says that Cat says...

    Opinions on boom casting repairs

Looks like a simple repair to me. But we loggers break a lot more stuff than dirt movers for the most part. But when I do get started on a repair like that, once its all aligned I would weld brace pieces across the gap down at the end to maintain alignment until done and cool. Then simply cut...
