Cat 950H, is it to much?

Hello, I received was able to get my hands on a 2008 Cat 950h wheel loader with about 18,300hrs. However, much fun as if it is to do stuff around the yard like plowing snow I sometimes feel it’s too big.

I Would like to hear some opinions from other owners that find themselves with likewise equipment.

its better to be too big than not have enough

I think its just a matter of seat time. Once you put 50hrs on that 950 and know where to look and where the booty is you won't think of it as too big.

It should make very snow clearing very quick.

If it is used around peoples driveways with curbs and things like that it is less forgiving than lets say an 8000lb skid steer if you touch something. If the parking lot is huge, then it works great. It is an expensive piece of equipment if only doing small amount of work, but maybe money is not an obstacle.
Cost per hour to own would be way more than a skid steer but a skid steer cannot do all the same work especially when snow is wet or heavy.

I'd say that you have it now. If the rubber is good, everything works and it was well cared for, you are set. You can get comfortable with what it can do and don't try to use it for what it is not good for.
Is it a tool machine with a quick change?

If there are any obstacles like curbs note where they are and slowly nudge against them to know exactly where they are so you can avoid hitting them. I got a job clearing snow with my skid steer because the former contractor used a big loader and took some big chunks out of the curb. Insurance for snow clearing is more expensive than for landscaping because things can be hidden under snow.

If i could convince my bosses to get me a 992 instead of a 988 I would be very happy with it.

I dont want excuses i just want results, op should buy a 995 and use it to scrape curbs like a real man

this particular machine I’ve ran at work for about 5 years before it ended up having a small fire, so I would say I’m comfortable in the seat. Will say It definitely feels strange driving it into town to fuel it up at the local gas station.

It does have the quick attach aswell as a 3rd valve so it’s a pretty good machine. It however does need A new engine wiring harness and 1-2 new tires but besides that it runs pretty good.

With a quick attach plus 3rd spool that puts it in another class of handy. So it is running with the burned harness?

It only burnt completely through at the Service break pressure sensor, the rest of the harness was just loom damage. Having a fire suppression system I think saved it from a severe damage.

I ran a 966C with a fire bottle right by the step. One day a carpenter, we will call him Fireman Dan, said what does this do as he pushed the lever down hard.
I lifted the throttle pedal as the whole engine compartment filled with dry powder. Thank you so much, Fireman Dan.
