First time pulling a Komatsu final drive... what am I getting into?

They look like silver steel flakes, not really any brass that I could see. Still in the track frame, just popped the cover off to take a peek inside.

First time pulling a Komatsu final drive... what am I getting into?

Pulled the cover today. Gears actually look great, but damn the oil was full of glitter and there's metal shavings sittin at the bottom. Pretty sure the main bearings are toast after 8,500 hours. Gonna order a rebuild kit with new bearings and duo-cone seals. Thanks for all the help guys!

First time pulling a Komatsu final drive... what am I getting into?

It's not dripping on the ground yet. Thanks John!

First time pulling a Komatsu final drive... what am I getting into?

Thanks for the tip! its about 8,500 hours, likely the original drive. Will pull the cover tomorrow and check the gears and bottom for chunks. Hope it's just bearings going.

First time pulling a Komatsu final drive... what am I getting into?

Done plenty of hydraulic and electrical work but I've never split a final drive on a Komatsu before. Got a PC200-6 that's making a slight grinding from the right side travel motor. Before I dive in, what should I know? Special tools needed? Any "if I'd known this before I started" advice from...

35D lost power on all functions (travel, digging, lifting)

That block mostly likely to be an auxiliary diverter valve for the cutter/thumb. Since your switch is acting up, the solenoid or spool inside is probably stuck halfway, dumping your pump pressure straight back to the tank. That explains the low power and pump noise. Before buying a pump, try to...

    Hard to start. White smoke.

The fact that it starts easy after bleeding but gets worse the longer it sits makes me wonder about the return side of the fuel system. Try pinching off the return line after shutdown and let it sit for a few days. If it starts noticeably better, I'd start chasing the return hoses, banjo...

Vio 20 2000 grey market excavator parts

Used to find my idea parts at FridayParts. They seem to carry a pretty wide range of parts for older equipment. Might be worth checking to see if they have what you're after. Good luck!

    John Deere 310SG Fuel Problem

Before changing more parts, check the fuel cap vent — a plugged vent pulls a vacuum on the tank and causes exactly this gradual starvation. Quick test: when it's about to die, crack the cap open. If it recovers immediately, that's your problem.

Help with JCB 214s hydraulic line question

Those larger couplers are most likely auxiliary hydraulics, probably for a hydraulic thumb, hammer, or grapple. Since the Amulet thumb is mechanical, it doesn’t use them. You’re right that the 214S uses a tandem pump system, around 21 GPM plus 18 GPM, about 39 GPM total. But that does not mean...

    Cat 235 hydraulic issues

1600-2400 at normal operation is pretty low for a 235. My first thought is the pilot pressure circuit. If pilot pressure is weak, the main control valves won't open up all the way, no matter what the main pumps are doing. It's easy to overlook because most guys go straight to the main pumps...

    Sumitomo SH60 No Hyraulic Controls

I'd check the gate lock solenoid (sometimes called the pilot shutoff solenoid) I think the easiest way to test it is to find the solenoid (usually near the main control valve), unplug it, and check if it's getting 12V when the gate lock lever is up. No voltage? Then you're chasing a bad switch...

idles good, shuts down at high rpm

Had almost the same thing happen on my 320D a while back. Turned out to be a partially clogged fuel pre-filter screen. I'd pull the primary and secondary fuel filters even if they don't look that old. After that, maybe check your lift pump pressure. I think it's most likely just a fuel delivery...

    Terex 72-31B Weak Transmission

Was the torque converter itself replaced or rebuilt as part of this job? Given that's where the original bearing failure happened, it's worth confirming it was properly addressed, too.
