One Welder, thanks for the lever ID. There was a ball on a rod under the right of the dash, any idea what that is?
In my searching, I've found the 656 farm tractor had problems with a range selector linkage coming loose, then causing loss of drive in one or both directions. Could this be what you call
"upper lever to left of seat holds trans at set speed when you engage pedal ( more you push pedal faster you go )"
Phill, yep 1,500 is probably still to high. If this had the same trans as my 3500 I wouldn't be too concerned. I've researched the 3500 pretty heavily and am confident in what makes it tick.
Being the 3600 goes forward, it rules out the charge pump, main pump and drive motor. It is very likely it's a control or servo problem. The question is if the repair can be done without splitting the tractor. If the tractor was in better shape I'd split the tractor, but this machine needs cyl repairs, badly needs paint, has bent steps and generally looks unloved.
In it's current state the 3600 is a retired guys machine. You know, a machine that sort of runs and is used to move non vital dirt with no time constraints. Pop a hose and can't keep working? No problem, gives one a excuse to go into town, chase Mabel around the diner then stop at the tractor parts store and sweet talk Lu-Ann.
