Hi guys,

I am putting together a business plan for a lighting maintenance company that will utilize a crane to service the lighting systems for baseball, football, soccer etc. fields. The height range is typically from 60' to 100' . I am looking at purchasing a 25-30 ton boom truck with 100' main boom and a 45' jib. It would incorporate a 2 man tip mounted basket and electronic remote controls.

The machine would be operated as an aerial basket about 90% of the time. the other 10% of the time it would be operated as a crane to support my sports lighting installation business. My company is based in Texas and will cover all adjoining states and Colorado. One of the many questions I have is what will the insurance cost for this type of venture? How much liability should I carry? what will the annual premiums be?

I have a little experience operating various cranes, I have been working around them for the past 10 years. I have done rigging to lift light poles and other tall structures. That said, I would hire an experienced operator to run this machine.

I have heard the term taxi crane before. I think it means a "crane for hire" (please feel free to expand on this or correct me if need be). The crane I am looking at will be used only to support my own business. Will this make any difference in the insurance costs.

Finally any suggestions as to reputable insurers experienced in the crane industry would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Hello guys
I have a question about a pond that I made, this is probably not the right place to ask it but I'm sure one of you will know the answer? Over the lasr year I have digging out my pond it is probably around 3/4 of an acre in size. The soil is all clay some rock around 1-2' in size. I dug it down till I hit larger stones that I could not remove with my 580SE so the base is from 6'- 10' down. Now this week the water has cleared up alot and I noticed that where it was 6' deep it is now only about 2' deep? I used a pole and shoved it into the bottom and I still can feel the bottom at the 6' depth but the clay is risen the 4'.
Is it possible that the clay is boyant and is rising up? There has been very little settling of the soil around the shoreline so it hasn't come from there. I'm hoping that my pond project is not turning into my quick sand project!:beatsme

Hi,
I got an old W4 earlier this fall for scrap price. It's in horrible shape from it's life in a fertilizer warehouse. I'm patching the radiator now, would rather replace, but being laid off put the crimp on how much I can do right now. I drove around some and used to push some tree tops around, it will really pull a lot too, more than I thought it would. I guess it should at 6000 lbs. It has the weight kit on the back.

Anyways, just wondering if anyone knows of good online source of info such as manual pages in pdf. I found the online CASE parts book and that gives nice exploded views, but I don't have any way to cross the CASE part numbers with anything else.

trying to get parts through case dealer is terribly expensive and difficult. It needs new hubs because most of the studs spin. The axles look like regular Dana 60s, so I am hoping they are standard outers from 3/4 or 1 ton truck, but I haven't seen any that match correctly. Even if I could cross the CASE pns for the inner and outer bearings to SKF of Timken or something that would be a start.

I've had trouble finding info about the engine. I know it's a Mitsubishi from what's left of the tag.

Anyways, just a quest for info on the W4 so feel free to add any info or experience you might have.

Thank you,

Ben
